Ecolibrium3 Teams Up with Seattle Startup to Catalyze Citizen Climate Action
GetGreen has curated a mobile app to help Duluth citizens take daily action as climate stewards
DULUTH, Minn., November 1, 2022 – Citizens in Duluth have an exciting new tool to take daily action on the climate through a mobile app designed to advance the Duluth Citizens’ Climate Action Plan. This plan is a citizen-led effort to inspire community-wide action to reduce Duluth’s greenhouse gas emissions and envision a future for Duluth that is sustainable and equitable.
To advance this initiative, Duluth-based nonprofit Ecolibrium3 is working with GetGreen, a Seattle-based startup that developed a mobile app to help individuals and organizations understand and have impact on the climate crisis through daily actions prompted by the app. As the first community scale version of the app, GetGreen Duluth was developed to demonstrate how the app can bring a community together to take climate action.
“Duluth is taking meaningful steps to help address the climate crisis, and in the process is setting an example for towns and cities across the country and around the world,” said Brian Ringer, CEO and co-founder of GetGreen. “Duluth’s leaders know they have to engage members of the community to achieve their emissions reduction goals and for the program to be a success. We at GetGreen are happy to play a role in activating that engagement, converting intention into action, and contributing to a more sustainable Duluth."
The City of Duluth has committed to carbon neutrality by 2050, with a near-term goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030. The Duluth Citizens’ Climate Action Plan was crafted to help our community take individual and collective steps toward a more resilient city.
“Duluth is committed to being a climate leader and it is exciting to be part of a pilot project that elevates community action and innovation. Our city has already been identified as a future climate haven, so it is imperative that we do all we can to become a sustainable and resilient region,” said Mayor Emily Larson.
Through promotion and use of the app, hundreds of local individuals will be introduced to the Duluth Citizens’ Climate Action Plan and be provided with a daily activity to support the goals of the plan. Daily activities include actions in support of local and lower carbon transportation and transit options, local food, composting and waste reduction, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and other efforts to reduce climate impacts through individual behaviors and advocacy.
The platform’s gamified approach not only increases engagement and action, but the partners have created a collective goal of raising funds to support a micromobility hub in Lincoln Park. App users will earn leaves for their actions that will earn funds for bringing critical mobility options to underserved areas of this community.
“GetGreen is a fantastic way to get our community involved with the Duluth Citizens’ Climate Action Plan. GetGreen has crafted a platform that has allowed us to implement the Duluth Citizens’ Climate Action Plan on an individual and community level,” said Ecolibrium3 CEO Jodi Slick. “Using GetGreen Duluth will help us implement the Duluth Micromobility Hub in Lincoln Park. This hub will increase transportation access for neighborhood residents experiencing high levels of poverty and disability by providing low-carbon mobility devices for check out. GetGreen has really opened the road for community change in Duluth.” GetGreen Duluth is available now as a free download for iOS and Android devices in the Apple and Android app stores. To download the app, visithttps://link.getgreen.eco/r8FFUxQN7sb or the respective Apple and Android marketplaces.
This project is in partnership with Grid Catalyst, a Minnesota-based energy and climate tech accelerator. GetGreen is one of five startups participating in its 2022 Demonstration cohort.

University of Washington Honors Students Eliminate 10 Tons of Carbon Emissions in New Pilot Program
Students took 1,000 sustainable actions while testing the GetGreen app
SEATTLE, WA., August 3, 2022 – GetGreen, the new mobile app for people and companies that want to help fight the climate crisis, today announced results from a two-month pilot with students from the University of Washington’s Honors Program. The Spring quarter pilot program that began on April 1st and ended on June 1st was a joint effort between the University of Washington and GetGreen to assess a customized version of the app for UW students looking to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle.
“The University of Washington is helping bring about sustainable change, and by inviting its honor students to participate in the GetGreen product, we’re able to develop something impactful on today’s mobile campus,” said Brian Ringer, CEO and co-founder of GetGreen. “GetGreen makes it easy to make a difference whether you’re at school, work or home. We show you where to start, how to build climate-positive behaviors, and help you identify planet-positive activities and services in your community."
The UW Honors students downloaded GetGreen and used the app throughout the quarter, providing feedback and recommendations on their daily experience and its features. The group was able to tap into GetGreen’s growing directory of green living tips to help them identify climate-positive actions, habits and behaviors, including a large set customized for the University of Washington. Students earned green “leaves'' for each of their actions, and all earned leaves could be donated to help fund campus sustainability projects.
All of the leaves earned by Honors students during the pilot reduced carbon emissions and went to the UW Campus Sustainability Fund, which primarily invests in solar projects around the campus. The students adopted the app very quickly, with each person averaging around 30 actions in a two month timeframe. Those actions earned more than 2100 leaves, equivalent to over 10 tons of avoided carbon emissions.
New data by the Pew Research Center shows that four of every five people want to make changes in how they live to reduce the effects of global climate change, and climate change continues to be the number one concern among university students.

GetGreen App Launches to Help People and Companies Take Climate-Positive Action
SEATTLE, WA., March 23, 2022 – GetGreen, the new mobile app for people and companies that want to help fight the climate crisis, debuted today. GetGreen shows people what to do, who to trust and how to take climate-positive action in their homes, businesses and communities.
“Climate change is overwhelming. Doing something about it doesn’t have to be,” said GetGreen CEO and co-founder Brian Ringer. “GetGreen helps people act on their intentions and values by making it easy to make climate-positive changes in their lives.”
New data by the Pew Research Center shows that four of every five people want to make changes in how they work and live to reduce the effects of global climate change. Yet many, especially those who are new to sustainability, don’t know what to do or how to start.
Ringer said GetGreen recommends local options for transportation, food, energy and more. “So people know what to do and how to start making a climate-positive impact. And so they feel more confident about the choices they make and the actions they take.”
He said that research also shows a growing level of climate-related anxiety. “There is no one solution for the climate crisis. Yet the aggregate of a great many individual actions will help. And taking individual action can be an antidote to climate anxiety.”
