Go Green or Go Home @ UW – Campus-Wide Sustainability Contest

Contest Brief

The Go Green or Go Home contest is a campus-wide sustainability competition aimed at encouraging students, faculty, and staff at the University of Washington, University of Washington Bothell and Cascadia College to take impactful actions toward reducing waste and energy consumption. Running from October 14, 2024, to December 6, 2024, the contest uses the GetGreen app to make environmental action simple and accessible through daily eco-tasks.

Recognizing that tackling climate change can feel overwhelming, the contest provides an easy entry point for participants by integrating small, actionable steps into their daily routines. By completing tasks on the app, participants earn green "leaves" and compete for exciting prizes while contributing to a broader sustainability effort across campus. This initiative not only empowers individuals to make meaningful environmental changes but also fosters a community-driven approach to creating a greener, more sustainable future at UW.

Key Dates

September 25, 2024: Registration opens

October 14, 2024 @ 9am: The competition begins!

October 30 & November 15, 2024: Mini-contests with prizes from Crossroads Trading, Taco Time and Weyerhaeuser

December 6, 2024 @ 5pm: The competition ends

December 8, 2024: Winners are announced and prizes are distributed.

How to Participate?

1. Download the GetGreen app and register with your UW or Cascadia College email.

2. Complete eco-conscious tasks to help reduce UW’s environmental footprint.

3. Earn leaves, join a team, follow your progress and compete against your peers on the leaderboard to win some prizes

Prizes

Each time you complete an action in the GetGreen app, you’ll earn leaves (points) based on the environmental impact of that action. As you collect leaves, your name will appear on the UW leaderboard, where you can track your progress against other top earners. Throughout three key stages of the contest, you’ll have the chance to win some exciting prizes:


October 30th: Mini Contest 1:
1st - 3rd place overall: $25 Crossroads gift card
Top 10 users of 1st place team: $10 Taco Time gift cards

November 15th: Mini Contest 2:
1st - 3rd place overall: $25 Taco Time gift card
Top 10 users of 1st place team: $10 Taco Time gift cards
Mini contest 1 winners excluded, must be all different prize winners

December 6th: Grand Prize Contest:
1st - 5th place overall: $25 Crossroads gift card + $25 Taco Time gift card + Metamorphic Gear dopp kit
6th & 7th place overall: $25 Crossroads gift card + $25 Taco Time gift card 
Top 15 users of 1st place team: $25 Taco Time gift card

Contest Rules:

• Leaves must be earned by November 15th and December 6th, 2024.
• ​Only valid for University of Washington students, staff or faculty.
• Limited to two prizes per person.​ No purchase necessary.
• ​You must earn green leaves days before October 30th, as well as on November 15th and December 6th, as there is a mini contest on these dates.
